Also known as Nimtree, and Indian Lilac, neem is a tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae, neem (Azadirachta indica), is native to India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It is typically is grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions but is noted for its drought resistance and is one of the very few shade trees that thrives in drought-prone, sub-arid and sub-humid conditions. Neem trees now also grow in islands located in the southern part of Iran. Products made from neem trees have been used in India for over two thousand years for their medicinal properties. Neem oil is made from its fruits and seeds.
